We are a National facility providing state-of-the art Mass Cytometry (CyTOF™, Fluidigm Inc.) analysis to the entire Swedish research community. The facility consists of two nodes - Stockholm and Linköping. At Stockholm node - we are based at Scilifelab where we provide state-of-the-art Mass cytometry analysis to the entire Swedish and non-Swedish research community. Standardized Mass cytometry experiments on customer provided samples are performed using validated panels of metal-coupled antibodies. We also perform technology development of new experimental assays and reagents as well as novel data analysis tools
Mass Cytometry (CyTOF) is one of the most powerful and advanced single cell technologies that enables high-parameter studies, where comprehensive phenotyping and functional profiling of cells is performed with the ability to measure greater than 40 markers per cell as compared to traditional fluorescence-based cytometry. It helps in systems level understanding of biology in health and disease.
Cellular targets are labeled with metal-tagged antibodies that are detected and quantified in individual cells in suspension using CyTOF2™ (Fluidigm) which is based on an Inductively-Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) . Samples are acquired at a rate of about 500-1000 cells/sec. The high purity and choice of metal isotopes provide minimal background noise from signal overlap.

Human Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) or mouse cell suspension should be frozen using a cryoprotective media containing 10% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and 90% fetal bovine serum (FBS) and stored in -80oC or Liquid Nitrogen. The samples should be transported (locally)/shipped (outside Stockholm) in a box with Dry ice or Liquid Nitrogen containers to our facility.Download instructions
Mass cytometry provides a powerful way to better understand heterogeneous cell suspensions, like whole-blood or peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) samples. Both mouse and human cells can be analyzed using one of our validated antibody panels.Learn more
